The Hong Kong Arts Centre (HKAC) has long been committed to curating diverse, large-scale international art events that foster the sustainable development of the local cultural and artistic ecosystem. Following the success and acclaim of last year’s inaugural “Collect Hong Kong” Art Fair, the HKAC has decided to establish it as a regular event, continuing to drive the flourishing growth of Hong Kong’s art scene. The press conference was held on 15 January, HKAC proudly announced that the event will now be held this March to energise the city’s vibrant art scene and will continue to be one of the highlight events during Art March.
“Collect Hong Kong” Art Fair 2026 has received 1,257 artwork submissions, with 530 local artists participating, surpassing last year’s record. Among them, over 280 artists participate through Friends of HKAC and are not affiliated with supporting art institutions or academies, a fivefold increase compared to the same category last year, fully demonstrating the wealth of hidden talent and creative strength within Hong Kong’s art community. “Collect Hong Kong” is attracting greater attention and engagement from artists, who are actively participating in local art activities, seizing opportunities to showcase their masterpiece, and further highlighting the diversity and vitality of Hong Kong art scene. The fair is supported by numerous educational institutions and arts organisations, including the Hong Kong Art School, the Academy of Visual Arts at Hong Kong Baptist University, the School of Creative Media at City University of Hong Kong, the Department of Communication Design at Hong Kong Design Institute, the Hong Kong Sculpture Society, and the Hong Kong Sculpture, laying a solid foundation for this new chapter in Hong Kong’s cultural journey. Mr. Peter Lau, Chairman of the Board of Governors of HKAC, remarked, “The Hong Kong Arts Centre has always championed the advancement of arts and culture. Our mission is to create a diverse and inspiring platform for local artists and collectors from around the world to connect and exchange ideas. Through this flagship event, we hope to cultivate a deeper public interest in art collecting, share the stories of Hong Kong through artistic expression, and continue to showcase the city’s unique cultural identity.”
Prof. Raymond Fung, member of the Board of Governors and Chairman of the Arts Programme Committee of HKAC, added, “As Hong Kong is perceived an Asian art hub, The ‘Collect Hong Kong’ Art Fair 2026 holds profound significance for the development of Hong Kong’s art ecosystem. It is not only a stage for showcasing creative achievements, but fosters intergenerational dialogue, enabling emerging artists to learn from established masters. We encourage audiences to devote time to appreciating the works of students and rising talents alongside those of the masters, and wish that ‘Collect Hong Kong’ will continue to grow, it will inject lasting vitality into the future of Hong Kong art.”
This year, the Hong Kong Arts Centre specially invited acclaimed art consultant Mr. Mok Wai Hong Gary, to be the curator of the art fair. For the first time, the fair will be divided into four themed exhibition zones: Collectors’ Choice, Esteemed Circle, Jury’s Choice, and Collective Horizons, showcasing local masterpieces through these innovative formats. Collectors’ Choice will showcase treasured pieces from esteemed Hong Kong collectors, curating a multifaceted artistic celebration with unique perspective and aesthetic sensibility. Esteemed Circle will feature works by veteran artists from the 1970s and 1980s alongside emerging talents from contemporary galleries, showcasing the artistry and creativity expressed across different generations. Jury’s Choice will highlight exceptional pieces recommended by the juries from shortlisted open-call entries, celebrating the creative power of the new generation. Collective Horizons present forward-looking open- call works selected by a panel of expert judges, bringing immersive experience.
Commenting on this bold curatorial approach, Mr. Mok said, " Hong Kong is a city of boundless creativity, “Collect Hong Kong” Art Fair 2026 is carefully curated and compiled as an experiential ‘Collecting guidebook’ for audiences and art lovers who wish to collect Hong Kong art. We hope that in the future each city’s art history will be arranged like a local gazetteer, using visual records rather than words to document the development of civilisation. Through curating these four themed zones, we bring together intergenerational narrative of Hong Kong, allowing audiences to see the artists’ talent, cultivation, sincerity, and how their artworks reveal personal pursuits or social responsibility. By engaging with the artworks and participating in dialogue, we aim to nurture a discerning eye and growing interest in art collecting—bringing art into everyday life.”
The “Collect Hong Kong” Art Fair 2026 will be held from March 21 to 29. This event not only marks a major milestone for the local art scene but also serves as a bridge for international cultural exchange, uniting the strength of local artists and collectors. Through its innovative curatorial approach, the fair invites audiences to experience intergenerational artworks and immerse themselves in the multifaceted stories of Hong Kong.
